Anamnesis
Exhibition
-> Feb 14 2025 – Mar 14 2025
Arte Expuesto presents Anamnesis, a collective project by artists Chuma Montemayor and Claudia Julián, which will be shown during February and March on the panoramic route.
Chuma Montemayor and Claudia Julian are two artists from the north of Mexico (Tamaulipas and Nuevo León) whose individual trajectory has worked, in different ways and approaches, on the theme of memory. Today, after the consolidation of the collective that carries their names as a banner, they explore this concept from their relationship as a couple, building a visual dialogue in which their pasts and the present they share converge.
Since Plato, anamnesis has been understood as the memory of a previous knowledge, an essential truth that the soul already knows before being born. In this project, ANAMNESIS becomes the exercise of rediscovering a shared memory that seems to have always existed, an echo of the past that materializes in the present through tangible and symbolic elements.
Each piece in this series is based on the premise that significant encounters are not casual, but the manifestation of a history that, although it may seem new, has always been written. The work is, then, a testimony of the unbreakable connection between two people who recognize each other, not only in the present, but in a time that we feel as non-linear, more as a sensation than as a fact.
ANAMNESIS does not seek to affirm that time is linear or cyclical, but to explore how we experience it, how certain encounters and memories make us feel that what we live is not new, but a recognition of something that already existed. Through matter, image and movement, this series recovers memories that seemed lost, but in reality were only waiting to be remembered.
