Atenas Orozco

Centro Cultural Plaza Fatima presents Topología del vínculo, a solo exhibition of recent work by Atenas Orozco, curated by Camila Izaguirre.

When contemplating the urban environment, we find a city full of noisy forms, disordered streets, tumultuous places. Monterrey, a city in constant movement and expansion, can be described as a dilated space, a place where everything happens at the same time.

Atenas Orozco approaches the structures that compose the public space from the everyday experience, along with a deep observation of the images that are traversed in her walks. Understanding urban space as a site of introspection, Atenas finds a symbolic object inserted in the lines and irregular shapes of the electrical wiring. There, where the contours of the electrical network are drawn, lies a complex system of energetic relations, delimited by the operation of its transmitters, resistances, tensions.

For the artist, the study of wiring and its forms allows her to visualize a diagram that could illustrate the functioning of interpersonal relationships. Through an intuitive composition and a sensitive reinterpretation, Atenas recognizes the poetic character contained in this network, according to its principles of union and connectivity.

Wires that bend, stretch or twist represent a phenomenon of energetic exchange, but also affective. Topología del vínculo brings together the work of Atenas, first as an on-site installation, then as its pictorial translation into large-scale drawings.

The result of this series of explorations shows us a model of interior ideas which, on one hand, inhabits the tangled structure of the wiring, and on the other hand, overflows in the lines of his drawings.

From the multiplicity of lines, perspectives and a variety of forms, the artist invites us to interact with a network of cable that poses a reflection on the dynamics of the bonds between people, in order to make its way through the urban chaos that confronts human fragility.
