The City That Never Stopped Playing
Exhibition
-> May 30 – Jul 26
Conferencia Interamericana de Seguridad Social
The Government of Mexico City, through the Mexico City Ministry of Tourism and the Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion, in collaboration with Public Culture, presents The City That Never Stopped Playing, an exhibition that revisits the urban, familial, and emotional memory of four World Cups that have shaped the football history of the capital: the 1970, 1986, and 2026 FIFA World Cups™, as well as the 1971 Women’s World Championship.
The exhibition also brings together contemporary works that engage with the city’s collective memory of these tournaments, including Yvonne Venegas’s portraits of the pioneers of women’s football; Santiago Arau’s aerial photographs of football pitches and spaces of play across Mexico City; illustrations by Francisco de la Mora created specifically for the exhibition; and Atlas de tierra (Atlas of Earth), a collective piece coordinated by Irina Calderón, consisting of 48 ceramic footballs intervened by contemporary artists, alluding to the 48 national teams that will participate in the 2026 World Cup.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a free public program featuring workshops, weekend football matches, guided tours, sticker-swapping sessions, conversations, book presentations, and a film club.
The full program can be found at laciudadquenohadejadodejugar.mx and on Instagram: @laciudadquenohadejadodejugar.
Open to the public from May 30 to July 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Inter-American Conference on Social Security. Admission is free.
