MUAC presents Desde el umbral, an exhibition that rethinks our relationship with nature in the context of the ecological crisis.

Through poetic, meditative, and speculative works, artists, collectives, researchers, and activists from diverse disciplines challenge the notion that nature and human beings are separate entities. The works brought together in Desde el umbral take the ecological crisis as their point of departure to explore new ways of understanding our relationship with the natural world.

Curated by Lucía Sanromán and Alejandra Labastida, the exhibition addresses topics such as the rights of nature, territorial defense, environmental justice, and the ways in which different communities have envisioned broader relationships between humans and other living beings.

Some projects combine art, science, and transdisciplinary research to explore forms of communication with animals and plants, or to examine the effects of militarization on rivers and mountains. Others analyze legal processes that have advanced the recognition of rights for oceans, rivers, and animals. Taken together, the works reveal how environmental degradation and various forms of social exclusion are often deeply interconnected.

This exhibition is part of a cross-institutional collective effort, both within the museum and across UNAM, aimed at developing more sustainable practices.

On opening day, an inaugural talk will take place featuring curators Lucía Sanromán and Alejandra Labastida, as well as artists and collectives Javier Acevedo-Mota, Ariel Guzik, Nuestro Derecho al Futuro A.C., Elisa Schmelkes, Patio Lab, Federico Pérez Villoro, and Tania Ximena.

June 13, 12:00 p.m. | MUAC Auditorium | Free admission | Limited seating

Following the talk, there will be a live performance featuring a vocal ensemble and electronic music by Magdalena: El río recuerda, presented by the Río Magdalena Duo and the No Coro.
