Leonora Carrington was born in 1917 in northern England and died at the age of 94 in Mexico City. Leonora never chose to be an artist, disguised as a set of watercolors that her mother gave her in childhood, painting chose Leonora, it took a hold of her, and it took her in her adolescence to study drawing and painting in Florence and London; art drove her to abandon everything and go to Paris at the age of 20 where surrealism captured her and baptized her “the bride of the wind”, she fell in love with the painter Max Ernst and lived the happiest times of her life, but the war destroyed the idyl and their emotional stability; she fled and the mexican poet renato leduc helped her and brought her to mexico. Here, leonora found her place, she met remedios varo who would introduce her to the hungarian photographer Chiki Weisz with whom she married and had her children pablo and gabriel; in Mexico she met her patron Edward James who rescued her from poverty and was able to develop her maximum artistic splendor, dedicating the next 70 years of her life to creating her wonderful painting, sculpture, graphics, textiles, jewelry and literature.
